Joanne Elaine (Johnson) Sherman was born to Walter and Elaine (Brownlee) Johnson on August 6, 1939. Joanne grew up with her siblings, Dolly and Jim on the farm where she was born in rural Truman. Joanne attended Westford Country School, then Truman High School, and graduated with the class of 1957. On July 18, 1959, Joanne married John Sherman, and together they welcomed four children; Bradley, Deborah, Scott, and Stephanie. Joanne and John were married for over 60 years.

Joanne enjoyed traveling, reading, sewing, playing cards, antiquing and finding rummage sale “treasures.” She enjoyed entertaining, and setting a formal table. She was a prolific quilter with a keen eye for color and pattern. Her many quilts were made with machine-like precision. She was the featured quilter of the Prairie Star Guild in 2017. Joanne was very active in her church and sang in the choir. She volunteered and helped others through her church, the Caring Pregnancy Center, and Compassionate Friends. Joanne enjoyed the Martin County Fair, and entered items just to buy a malt with her premium ribbon money. Joanne was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her son Scott passed away November 1991, and her husband John in September 2020. Joanne passed away on February 26, 2024, at Living Meadows in Madelia, MN.

Joanne is survived by her son, Brad (Laurie) Sherman and their daughters, Barbara (Austin Witt) Sherman and Catie (Cole) Lightfoot and their children, Aiden and Elaine; daughter, Deb and her son, Jacob Melson and daughter, Aline (Caleb) Wilking, and their children, Scarlet, Nova, and SunGreen; daughter-in-law, Angie Brantley and her and Scott’s son, Alex Brantley; daughter, Stephanie (Robin DiPietro) Sherman; Joanne’s brother, Jim (Deb) Johnson; brother-in-law, Jim (MaryLou) Sherman; nieces and nephews; and other relatives.

Joanne was preceded in death by her son, Scott; husband, John; parents, Walter and Elaine; sister, Dolly (Jerry) Bessler; sister-in-law, Shirley (Murten) Karau and their daughter, Barb Warnke; as well as several extended family and friends.

Blessed be the memory of Joanne Sherman.  She will be forever loved and missed.
